Since moving here to the Algarve, we haven’t made a whole load of friends but we have met some folk and even been useful once or twice. Nik, for example, is a dab hand at ‘fixing’ cars and has, on several occasions, been involved in sorting out our upstairs neighbour’s daughter’s car (keeping up?? Good!)
As a “thank you”, she offered to pay for Nik and the boys to do a surfing lesson at the place where she works up at Odeceixe.
There’s not too much to say about it other than Nik and Jake both loved it (although both were completely wiped out by the physical nature of it!) and Eliot… well, Eliot didn’t do so well. The sea was rough and rather intimidating for a little 8 year old and the instructor couldn’t spend the time Eliot needed with him because he had 4 other people to teach/watch/keep an eye on.
This resulted in several Eliot-style tantrums when he had to retire and sit on shore while everyone else went out. Suffice to say, how the day went depends entirely on who you ask, of course!
Odeceixe itself is certainly very pretty and, considering it’s only 45 mins away from us here in Lagos, feels like a world away (I think it lies *just* within the Algarve border)
We passed some beautiful villages en route too. Rogil was particularly lovely. I’d definitely consider moving there in the future (when the kids finish school/are fluent etc 😀 )
we LOVE Odeceixe! if you go back again let us know and we’ll give you directions for the most amazing little back street restaurant that does the BEST rabbit stew we have eaten!! 🙂
